Wintry weather causing traffic woes across south central Indiana
Snowy and windy conditions are causing traffic backups on many central Indiana highways.
Interstate 70 remained closed Thursday evening due to a crash involving 35 cars and semis in Hendricks County.
South of Indianapolis, INDOT reported all lanes of I-65 northbound were closed near Edinburgh due to a crash. A police dispatcher in Edinburgh says the crash involved as many as eight vehicles, but believed it to have been cleared by about 9:30 pm.
Traffic on I-65 southbound was reported as slow or stopped from Greenwood south to near Taylorsville around 7:30 p.m. Thursday. Google Maps showed traffic slow in both directions all the way south to Seymour.
Around 10 p.m., US 31 between Whiteland and Franklin also showed stopped traffic. A viewer reported the road was closed by officers on the south side of Franklin.
The maps service also showed slow traffic on I-74 from Shelbyville south to near Cincinnati.
Meanwhile, an Eyewitness News crew driving north on SR 37 in Morgan County described the roads as "a mess." Several cars had slid off the roadway and the traffic that was moving was doing so well below the posted speed limit. The northbound lanes at the hill in Martinsville were closed for a time Thursday evening.
