Snow will develop late Tuesday afternoon, and is expected to become heavy at times Tuesday night with some snowfall rates of 1-2″ per hour.
By Wednesday morning, expect totals of 4-7″ in the Indy metro with 6-10″ north of I-70. 2-5″ south of the Indy metro will be possible with more sleet/ice mixing in. If the precipitation stays mostly snow, expected the higher end of those totals.
A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for Central Indiana starting at 1:00 p.m. today, and ending Wednesday. Travel will be hazardous and dangerous tonight into Wednesday morning.
The snow will come to an end by late Wednesday morning.
Snow will depart by Wednesday afternoon and bitter cold air returns for the later half of the week.
Another round of cold air will follow this winter storm. Forecast lows are 0 to -5 for Thursday and Friday mornings, with highs only in the teens. We're already keeping tabs on another potential snow maker for the weekend, and we'll sort of the details after we get through this first storm.
