Whole Foods project moving forward in Broad Ripple
A neighborhood's move to stop a new development in Broad Ripple has failed.
Whole Foods is planning to build a new store near the old Shell station along College Avenue in Broad Ripple.
Opponents tried to get the council to block the plan, but were unsuccessful.
Developers feel this project will bring new money into the area. Opponents say it doesn't fit the character of Broad Ripple.
The site plan proposed by Browning Investments includes a 75-foot tall apartment building and a 35,000-square-foot grocery store earmarked for a Whole Foods.
Despite the opposition from locally-owned businesses, some are hoping the project will help turn around Broad Ripple's daytime economy. The area has thrived at night with its bars and nightlife, but tends to be quiet during the day.
