A two-alarm business fire shut down a portion of Lafayette Road on the Indianapolis west side Wednesday morning.

Indianapolis Fire Department crews were called to the scene after 9:00 am. Heavy smoke was pouring from Michel's Tire Shop near 30th St.

Lafayette Road was shut down and residents were advised to stay inside due to concerns that the smoke might be toxic.

IFD told Eyewitness News no one was inside when the fire started. The owner has been there for about eight months.

Crews launched a defensive exterior attack with two aerial operations, five hand lines and three supply lines.

In all, 24 IFD and IMPD units responded, along with IPL, Citizens Energy, IEMS and City Code Enforcement.

As of 11:33 am, firefighters were still on the scene, but appeared to be getting the fire under control.
