Wenning leads Cardinals to win in season opener


Ball State rallied from a slow start to beat Illinois State 51-28 in the season opener for both teams.

Illinois State jumped to a 21-9 lead in the second quarter before the Cardinals scored 42 unanswered points to seal the win. The Redbirds added a late touchdown to close the gap.

Keith Wenning threw for 340 yards and three touchdowns for Ball State, with 164 yards and two scores going to Willie Snead. Jahwan Edwards and Horactio Banks each scored a rushing touchdown for the Cardinals.

Ball State hosts Army Saturday at 1 p.m.
