Week #3 of Operation Football all about rivalries

Some of the biggest local rivalries in high school football take center stage for Week #3 of Operation Football.

How about Center Grove at Carmel for starters?  In an epic battle of South versus North in Class 6A, the #2 ranked Trojans will try to avenge last year's regular season loss to the #5 ranked Greyhounds.

Center Grove enters the game 2-0 while Carmel is even at 1-1.

Eyewitness Sports Director Dave Calabro will report live from Carmel stadium starting at 5pm.

Then there's the battle of the 4A parochial rivals Roncalli (1-1) and Bishop Chatard (1-1).   Both teams are coming off wins last week, with Roncalli coming from behind to beat Franklin Central while Bishop Chatard knocked off  Broad Ripple.

The #6 ranked Rebels are looking to avenge a double-overtime loss last year to the Trojans. Bishop Chatard is ranked #3 in 4A despite dropping their season opener to Brebeuf.

The game will be played at Tech HS and that's where Eyewitness Sports reporter Eric Yutzy reports live Friday starting at 5 P.M.

The battle of number ones takes place at Marian University where #1 3A Brebeuf (2-0) takes on #1 2A Ritter (2-0).

To the south, we have the battle for bragging rights in Perry Township when Perry Meridian takes on cross-township rival Southport.

Both teams are 2-0 with Perry coming off an offensive shoot-out victory last week against Decatur Cental.  The final score of that game?  83-78.

Dave Calabro's Operation Skylights include a touchdown at Mt Vernon where the undefeated Yorktown Tigers take on #5 4A Mt Vernon (2-0).

From Mt Vernon, Calabro & Company take flight over to Hamilton Southeastern where the Royals (1-1) host the Brownsburg Bulldogs (1-1).  Both schools are winners of the Operation Football Spirit Award which could make for a wild Friday night in Hamilton County.

Also on the Operation Football radar:  Kentucky powerhouse Louisville Trinity visits #1 6A Lawrence Central (2-0), undefeated Noblesville (2-0) takes on Zionsville and Arsenal Tech (1-1) and Pike (1-1) square off at Pike.

The Operation Football Cheerleaders of the Week are the Speedway Sparkplugs.
