Two units of the Mariners Village Apartments off Crawfordsville Road were damaged by an attic fire early Monday morning.

Wayne Township, Pike and Speedway fire crews responded to the three-story building around 1:30 a.m. and found a fire burning the in third floor attic.

The fire was under control within 15 minutes, but the third floor unit where the fire started and the one below it are not fit to live due to fire and water damage.

Damage is estimated at $10,000, according to Wayne Twp. Fire Captain Mike Pruitt.

Nobody was hurt.

Smoke alarms did not go off because the fire started above the ceiling. The man living in the third floor apartment where the fire started said his dog woke him, and the man called 911.

He also told firefighters he had told apartment maintenance of an electrical issue the previous week.
