A Raleigh waitress will be able to keep her $1,000 tip from a generous customer - but only after that customer found a way around the restaurant's tip policy.

WTVD in Raleigh, North Carolina reports that a customer left Waffle House waitress Shaina Brown a $1,500 tip after she worked a Mother's Day shift last month - $1,000 intended for her and another $500 for her to share with another customer, according to the report.

But Waffle House says any large tips on a credit card will automatically be returned to the customer in case the customer decides to dispute the charge. Instead, the customer is asked to make the tip in cash or write a check.

Fortunately for Shaina Brown, the customer returned to the restaurant to write her a check for $1,000 after Waffle House refunded the amount on the credit card.

All the same, Brown said the experience was "humiliating" because the restaurant wouldn't initially let her keep the tip.
