'Voice' champion Kaufman named IPL 500 Festival Parade grand marshal
"The Voice" champion Josh Kaufman's busy week will carry through the weekend.
The Indianapolis resident has been named Grand Marshal of the IPL 500 Festival Parade.
"We have been tracking Josh’s progress on 'The Voice' since the first round and we’re glad to have him involved in the festivities of the 500 Festival and the Indianapolis 500," said Bob Bryant President & CEO, 500 Festival. "He has already been such a great ambassador for Indiana and with his well-deserved win he is poised to represent Hoosiers on the grandest of scale."
Actor Jim Nabors, who will sing "Back Home Again in Indiana" for the final time before Sunday's Indianapolis 500, will serve as Honorary Grand Marshal for the parade.
Kaufman will also attend the sold-out Key Bank 500 Festival Snakepit Ball and sing at the gala. A cappella group "Straight No Chaser," which originated at Indiana University, will also perform at the event.
The red carpet festivities outside the Snakepit Ball can be seen on Channel 13 at 6:30 p.m. Saturday.
On Sunday, Kaufman will be part of a pre-race parade lap at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway before the race.
He arrived home shortly before 11 p.m. Thursday to a homecoming party of several dozen fans at Indianapolis International Airport. After spending a month in Los Angeles before this week's cross-country media tour, Kaufman says he's looking forward to getting home.
"I want to get home and spend some time with my wife and kids as much as possible," Kaufman said.
Kaufman was voted the winner of "The Voice" on Tuesday night. In the days since, he has appeared on "The TODAY Show" and "The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon" among several other public appearances.
