More than three dozen officers saluted the family of a slain Gary police officer as they arrived at the city's Genesis Convention Center for his visitation.

The Post-Tribune reported the somber mood surrounding the death of Patrolman Jeffrey Westerfield was punctuated only by a faint siren Sunday as the assembled officers stood at attention.

The visitation come one week after Westerfield was found shot to death in his police cruiser. Police have a person of interest in custody, but charges haven't been filed. Lake County Sheriff John Buncich has offered a $10,000 reward for information leading to a conviction.

Organizers say they expect between 600 and 1,000 law enforcement personnel and hundreds of others at the Monday funeral, which is also being held at the convention center.
