US-31 construction rush hour passes without major delays
The first real rush-hour test for drivers looking for alternative routes to a closed section of US-31 didn't go too badly.
Traffic in both directions is shut down on 31 between 136th Street to the north and Old Meridian to the south.
There were some backups we found Monday morning around areas like Michigan Street but nothing gridlocked.
Crews are upgrading the highway to freeway standards. That means no traffic lights, making traffic flow a lot faster from Indianapolis through Carmel all the way to South Bend.
The closure will last into November.
