UIndy women fall in Div. II tourney opener
The UIndy women's basketball season came to an end Friday night in Ohio.
The Greyhounds fell to Ashland 70-56 in the opening round of the NCAA Division II women's tournament. The Eagles (32-1) outrebounded UIndy 48-34, leading to a 14-1 advantage in second-chance points. The Greyhounds shot just 33.3 percent from the field.
"Obviously, it was a tough loss," said Indianapolis head coach Constantin Popa. "But Ashland is a pretty good team. There's a reason they are where they are. They played a great game. We had no answers at times. We had a game plan in place. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't. They won just about every category on the score box. We pretty much lost to a better team tonight."
Senior Kristin Turner led UIndy with 17 points, while junior Dajana Jovanovic scored 10.
The Greyhounds finish the season with a 19-10 record.
