Two injured in vacant house fire on east side
An Indianapolis firefighter and another man were hurt Thursday night when a vacant home frequented by squatters caught fire.
Firefighters found a man in the back of the home in the 1800 block of East Maryland Street just after 10:00 p.m.
Medics took the man - believed to be homeless - to Eskenazi Hospital in serious condition with smoke inhalation.
The firefighter suffered a slight knee injury due to a hole in the deck of the home.
Firefighters had the fire under control in 15 minutes.
The cause is still under investigation.
