Two young men were injured in a crash on the Indianapolis northeast side Thursday.

The Indianapolis Fire Department says a 17-year-old male was driving a 2008 GMC Envoy through the intersection at 71st and Briarclift Drive when his vehicle was struck by a 2008 Infiniti sedan.

The Infiniti driver, a 23-year-old male, had to be extricated from his car and was taken to St. Vincent Hospital in serious but stable condition. The teen was taken to St. Vincent Hospital to be checked for minor injuries.

Firefighters said it was difficult to rescue the Infiniti driver because his car came to rest in a drainage ditch. It took about 15 minutes to get him out.

Firefighters say that the seatbelts and airbags were effective in the crash.
