Two injured in Emerson Avenue shooting

A shooting victim is in critical condition after an incident on the northeast side of Indianapolis, and Indianapolis Metro Police are investigating if a second shooting was related.

Police confirmed to Eyewitness News officers were responding to the shooting near E. 40th Street and Emerson Avenue around 4:45 p.m. Tuesday and that the male victim was in critical condition. He was transported to Wishard Hospital after being found shot multiple times in the middle of Emerson Avenue.

Police believe the man ran into the street and collapsed after the shooting in the apartment complex. At this point they're not sure if the shooting happened inside an apartment or outside.

He was upgraded to fair condition Tuesday evening.

A second man turned up at Methodist Hospital, saying he'd been shot at a location close to the original incident.

"We need people to put down the guns and start using some common sense," said Officer Kendale Adams. He added, "We need the community to come forward with information so when individuals are shooting they can tell us who it is."

Investigators are trying to determine if the shootings are related. They are canvassing neighborhoods for witnesses to either shooting.
