Two Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers were injured Monday night in a fight with a man.

4-year veteran Officers Aaron Trotter and Daniel Slightom were checking on a vehicle parked after hours around 2 a.m. in Northwestway Park at 5253 W. 62nd St.

A man in the vehicle ran from the officers while they were trying to pursue him and the suspect fought with police.

One officer sustained minor injuries and the other officer had his uniform and gun belt damaged and ripped.

One officer was taken to Methodist Hospital, and the other drove himself as a precaution.

The suspect, 34-year-old Charles Foster, was treated at the scene by medics for heavy breathing and sweating, and was suspected of being on an illegal substance. He was also taken to Methodist.

He was arrested on an outstanding warrant.

Police say he will be charged with assault.

A woman in the vehicle with the suspect wasn't injured and didn't resist.

IndyParks' hours are dawn to dusk and IMPD said no one should have been in the park when it was closed.
