Train catches fire on Ohio River bridge in New Albany
Two train cars were involved in a fire on a bridge over the Ohio River near New Albany Monday evening.
WAVE-TV in Louisville reports several train cars are on fire on the New Albany side of the K&I bridge near Louisville. The fire started around 6 p.m. Monday.
Firefighters from Louisville and New Albany are on the scene. Crews were able to pull the train from the bridge around 8:30 p.m. and fight the fire on land, WAVE reported.
Firefighters believe the fire may have started on the railroad ties on the bridge. Norfolk Southern was doing work on the bridge within the past couple days.
Fire spread to bags of tea inside on of the rail cars. Two cars were completely engulfed in flames.
Three firefighters were taken to the hospital by ambulance for heat-related issues.
River traffic was shut down near the bridge.
