Tipton Co. Deputy dies in crash

An on-duty Tipton County Sheriff's Deputy was killed in a crash Saturday night.  Officials say Deputy Jacob Calvin, 31, Kempton, was on-duty and was responding to an accident. 

Officers from the Indiana State Police and the Tipton County Sheriff's Department responded to the single vehicle crash  at about 9:50 p.m. on Tipton County Road 300 West near County Road 300 South.

Investigators believe the two year veteran of the Tipton County Sheriff's Department was driving a 2011 Chevrolet Impala police car, at a high rate of speed, northbound on Tipton County Road 300. For an undetermined reason, the Impala traveled off of the east side of the road and rolled multiple times.  Deputy Calvin was ejected from the car.

Investigators say, at the time of his crash, the deputy's emergency lights and siren were activate.

Deputy Calvin was transported by ambulance to Indiana University Tipton Hospital where he later died.

This crash is still under investigation.
