Indianapolis - Three people were injured during an early morning house fire Wednesday on the southwest side. Those injured included two firefighters.

Investigators say the fire started in one home in the 1300 block of South Kappes just before 2:00 a.m. and then spread to the neighboring house.

Three adults and three kids woke up to flames and smoke when their neighbor pounded on their door.

Firefighters say the grandmother was taken to the hospital with minor smoke inhalation after she went back inside the house to find her cat.

Officials on the scene say the house where the fire started appears to be a total loss. They are still trying to find a cause.

The two injured firefighters were treated at the scene for minor injuries.
