Thieves crash through store, leave ATM
Police are looking for whoever tried to steal an ATM from a north side gas station early this morning. Just before 3:30 a.m., a pickup truck backed through the front of the Marathon station at 30th and College Avenue.
The station was closed at the time.
Surveillance video shows a person getting out of the truck, attaching a strap onto the ATM, and then the strap breaking as the truck drives away.
Police recovered the truck, but are still looking for the driver and person who attached the strap.
Station owner Jaswand Banwaid told Eyewitness News the station has been hit before, "There's a lot of break-ins over here." He has tried to convince the neighborhood association to allow him to remain open 24 hours so the station is never left unattended.
He also said the Hoosier Lottery machine was damaged.
Banwaid said the ATM machine was stolen once before.
