(Editor's Note: Police originally identified the victim as a 15-year-old boy. They have since corrected the age to 19 years old.)
A 19-year-old man has died in a shooting that police are investigating as a homicide.
Officers responded to a reported disturbance in the Heart's Landing apartment complex shortly before 6 p.m. Monday. Callers told 911 dispatchers there were several people involved in a fight outside of one of the apartments.
As they arrived on the scene, officers could not find anyone fighting. As they drove north on Stouffer Lane, they overheard the sound of gunshots. The officers were flagged down by residents and directed to an apartment where the teenager was found unconscious and suffering from at least one gunshot wound.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators believe an unknown number of suspects fled the shooting scene before police arrived. Several witnesses are being interviewed by police as the investigation continues.
