SUV driver critical after Indianapolis crash involving school bus
A woman is in critical condition after police say she turned in front of a school bus Wednesday afternoon.
It happened near 71st and Binford Blvd. at around 3:00 pm.
Witnesses tell police the SUV turned left into the path of the oncoming bus. The school bus broadsided the SUV.
The driver of the SUV, a 53-year-old woman, was unconscious at the scene. She was taken to Methodist Hospital in critical condition.
Police say there were 19 North Central High School students on Washington Township bus number 35 who were being transported home at the time of the crash. Three of them suffered minor injuries. They were taken to Community North Hospital to be checked out for injuries including bruises and bloody lips.
The bus driver, a 49-year-old woman, was praised for taking care of the students during the ordeal. She went to the hospital as a precaution.
