Officers arrested an Indianapolis man who showed a gun to police after a chase Tuesday evening.

Police say an officer tried to make a traffic stop at East 10th Street and Colorado Avenue. The driver refused to stop and fled a short distance, stopping behind the Rent A Center at 4401 East 10th Street.

The driver, 22-year-old Coble Sterling of Indianapolis, then got out of the car and fled on foot. The man hid behind a dumpster, then suddenly appeared with a handgun in his hand. The officer, fearing for his life, fired his duty weapon, but missed the suspect.

Sterling immediately dropped his gun and surrendered to police without further incident. He is likely to face preliminary charges.

No injuries were reported from the incident.
