Study: Oreos are as addictive as cocaine
A new study finds that Oreos may be more addictive than cocaine.
A team at Connecticut College found eating the sugary cookies activates more neurons in the brain's "pleasure center" than drugs such as cocaine.
Researchers tested lab rats and found that the results supported the theory that high fat/high sugar foods stimulate the brain the same way that drugs do. And, that it may be one reason people have trouble staying away from them, and that may contribute to the obesity epidemic.
