Student suspended for having stun gun on Lawrence North bus
A Lawrence North High School freshman is suspended after a bus driver found a stun gun in his backpack.
The driver noticed the stun gun while driving her route to the high school Tuesday morning. Administrators met the bus and began searching students and their belongings. A school district release said another student "discreetly identified" the freshman student during the search.
"I'm proud of the student who stepped forward to make sure the stun gun was found," said Principal Brett Crousore. "Our students want their school and buses to be safe. Stepping up was the right thing to do."
The student told administrators the stun gun belonged to one of his parents and did not know it was in his backpack. He said the stun gun went off inadvertently when he reached into the bag.
No one was injured and the stun gun was never inside Lawrence North High School.
The student is suspended pending an expulsion hearing.
