Store clerk robbed at knifepoint
A gas station clerk is recovering Thursday after an attempted robbery.
It happened in Greenfield at a Speedway gas station in the 1200 block of North State Street, just after midnight. Police say the clerk was taken by knifepoint, but able to get away.
Greenfield Detective Sergeant J.D. Fornter told us police received the panic alarm from the gas station, and were able to respond so quickly, they actually caught the suspect in the midst of trying to abduct the clerk.
"He had her open the register, took the money and told her that he was going to take her with him, drug her out of the store. She was coming out of the store when police arrived on the scene," said Fortner.
He went on to say, "When the officers arrived, he was in the parking lot; he had asked the attendant, 'did you hit the alarm? Did you hit the alarm?' She said, 'yes I did, yes I did!' At that time, officers engaged with the subject; told him to drop the knife, he refused, started coming toward one of the officers. Second officer who arrived on the scene at the same time, was able to get behind the subject and tased him."
The suspect was taken to Hancock Regional Hospital to be checked out and will be booked on a number of charges.
Officers have identified the suspect as 35 year-old Brandon Hendrickson. They say he has no known criminal record in Hancock County. Officers say what is unusual, is that Hendrickson is a regular at this gas station. They say he comes in about every day. Officers say the clerk does not know his name, but was very familiar with him.
