State offers tips to save on electric bills
The state Office of Utility Consumer Counselor is recommending ways Indiana residents can save money on electric bills during the summer, such as setting the thermostat at the highest comfortable temperature and raising it a few degrees when leaving home for more than five hours.
It also recommends using ceiling fans only when in a room and making sure the fans turn counter-clockwise. It also recommends limiting use of exhaust fans.
The office also homeowners have their heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems serviced by professional for efficiency and safety purposes.
Other trips include unplugging chargers for cell phones and other devices when not in use; moving lamps, TVs and appliances away from the thermostat; and closing blinds, shades and draperies, as well as storm doors and windows.
