INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - The son of two-time Indianapolis 500 winner Dan Wheldon followed in his father's footsteps - and lip prints - at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway this week.

Sebastian Wheldon drove his go-kart down the front stretch at the speedway Thursday, stopping at the finish line, then getting out to kiss the famous "yard of bricks."

"(IMS) holds some big feelings for our family, for sure, and emotions," Wheldon's widow, Susie, told IndyCar.com. "Watching Sebastian was really super special. You’re kind of in the moment with everything and don’t necessarily get to stop and pause – maybe this evening or later tonight it will sink in."

Sebastian's aunt Holly shared a photo of the memorable moment on Twitter.

Sebastian was being filmed for a video project by Mattel and Hot Wheels. He later competed in the Hot Wheels IndyCar Jr. Grand Prix at K1 Speed in Fishers.

Sebastian's dad won the Indy 500 in 2005 and again in 2011, cruising to victory past J.R. Hildebrand who crashed in Turn 4 with the lead on the final lap in one of the most memorable finishes in race history.

Dan Wheldon died in a crash at the race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in 2011.
