A southern Indiana man is facing felony charges for allegedly abusing his five-month-old child.

State police say Samuel Brinson, 22, of Chrisney in Spencer County, became frustrated at his son's crying and allegedly squeezed the boy's abdomen too hard as he picked him up, causing "significant bruising." As the child continued to cry, Brinson then reportedly bit his ears, causing more bruising.

The boy's mother took him to Memorial Hospital in Jasper, thinking he had a rash. The baby was then transported to Kosair Children's Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky to be evaluated for internal injuries.

Police received an arrest warrant for Brinson and took him into custody without incident Wednesday. He is charged with battery causing injury to a child less than 14 years of age, a felony.
