A southern Indiana city has approved relocating five historic homes that are in the path of a new Ohio River bridge linking Indiana and Kentucky.

The Jeffersonville Board of Public Works on Wednesday approved the relocation plans that are part of a settlement between preservation groups and Indiana and Kentucky officials. The two states agreed to dedicate $1.7 million to a historic preservation and enhancement fund.

The relocation of the five homes in downtown Jeffersonville was given priority consideration for that funding with a preference that they be moved within Jeffersonville's historic district.

The News & Tribune reports that all but one of the homes has a lot on which it will be relocated as part of the new Interstate 65 bridge between Jeffersonville and Louisville, Ky.
