Southbound State Road 37 shifting to new bridge to I-69 and 116th Street
Contractors for the Indiana Department of Transportation plan to shift traffic on southbound State Road 37 to a new bridge over the southbound I-69 exit to 116th Street Saturday night after 6 p.m.
Southbound State Road 37 will remain restricted to a single lane between 126th Street and I-69, and access to both southbound I-69 and 116th Street will remain open from southbound State Road 37.
Milestone Contractors, the INDOT contractor for the $18 million Operation Indy Commute interchange improvement project at Exit 205, closed the southbound I-69 exit to 116th Street on July 26 for up to 90 days to expedite construction of the new interchange configuration. The new bridge is an important part of the new configuration, which is intended to reduce congestion and improve traffic flow by eliminating weaving traffic patterns. The interchange improvements are expected to be complete by the end of this year.
Operation Indy Commute is an initiative by INDOT to strategically eliminate recurring commuting bottlenecks on I-69 in Marion and Hamilton counties between I-465 and Exit 205. A separate $11 million contract is adding a southbound travel lane between 116th Street and I-465 and will construct northbound and southbound auxiliary lanes to connect interchange ramps between 116th, 96th and 82nd streets.
