"Smokey and the Bandit" hits the big screen this weekend

INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - If the rain moves your plans indoors this weekend, head eastbound and down to the movies.

The 1977 classic "Smokey and the Bandit" celebrates its 40th birthday with showings in theaters nationwide Sunday and Tuesday. Three Indianapolis-area theaters will be showing the Burt Reynolds film about a daring beer run through the South.

The movie will be shown at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday at the Indianapolis 17 at 4325 S. Meridian Street and the Castleton Square 14 at 6020 E. 82nd Street and at 2 p.m. at the Plainfield 18 at 2490 Futura Park Way in Plainfield.

It will run again Wednesday, May 24 on the same schedule at the same theaters.

If "Smokey and the Bandit" isn't your speed, Fathom Events has classic films slated for theaters all year, including "The Godfather" June 4 and 7.
