Small plane crashes near Greenwood airport
Emergency crews are at the scene where a small aircraft crashed in a Greenwood farm field.
It happened near East County Line and Combs Road, about a mile east of the airport. Traffic is blocked off in the area.
A student and instructor were in the plane, a 1976 Cessna single engine, doing "touch and go" maneuvers when the pilot reported that the plane stalled. Minor injuries were reported.
According to police, the plane's pilot was Dennis Rumley, 65, of Greenwood. Rumley is a flight instructor for Jeff Air Pilot Services which operates from Greenwood Airport. Rumley was giving flight instructions to 38-year-old Indianapolis resident Brent Abshier.
Rumley and Abshier were getting out of the plane as officers arrived. Both had non-life threatening injuries and were transported to area hospitals.
Rumley said he had engine problems.
A representative from the Federal Aviation Administration responded to the scene to conduct an investigation.
