An Indianapolis man was sentenced Friday afternoon for repeated sexual assault and battery against a woman brought to the US from India for an arranged marriage.

Lakhvir Singh was sentenced to 25 years in prison, with the last five to be served in community corrections. He will likely serve around ten years with good behavior, but he will be deported after that.

The marriage never happened. Instead, prosecutors say Singh tortured the woman for weeks when she lived with him during the summer months of 2010.

Police say Singh's mother brought the woman here under the apparent guise of an arranged marriage.

The woman eventually escaped Singh's apartment and reported the abuse.

Singh sentencing is scheduled for 2:00 pm Friday.
