The Marion County Sheriff's Department stepped up Wednesday to help those who keep the peace at crime scenes.

The department is donating 20 brand new bullet-proof vests to the Ten Point Coalition.

"We normally go where the gunfire is and we try and engage people, and there are times when we're out there where there is gunfire and this is an added layer of protection," said Rev. Charles Harrison with Ten Point.

While no Ten Point member has ever been injured at a crime scene or during faith walks or patrols, there have been a couple of close calls.
