A Shelbyville teenager was killed and two others were injured in a crash on the southeast side of Indianapolis Friday afternoon.

It happened on I-74 westbound near Acton Road. The crash closed the westbound lanes for several hours.

The crash involved a semi trailer and a passenger vehicle.

Police say a Pontiac Grand Am with three occupants was traveling east on I-74. Witnesses told police the driver, 18-year-old Katrina Collins of Shelbyville, lost control while trying to avoid debris on the road. The car hit another vehicle before crossing to the other side of the highway, striking a westbound semi trailer.

Collins was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene. It took firefighters with the Indianapolis Fire Department about 20 minutes to extricate the two passengers.

The front seat passenger, Collins' sister Melissa, 20, was taken by Lifeline to Methodist Hospital in critical condition. A backseat passenger, 21-year-old Brady Phares of Shelbyville, was taken to Methodist Hospital, also in critical condition.

Neither the driver of the semi nor the driver of the other vehicle, an SUV, were injured.
