A Shelby County food processing plant was seriously damaged overnight after a fire broke out inside.

Firefighters found the Fischers Food Grade, Inc. corn processing building on County Road 3387 South fully engulfed in fire around 3:00 Saturday morning. It took firefighters from Waldron, Shelbyville, Marietta, Flat Rock, St. Paul and Manilla around four and a half hours to finally bring the fire under control.

No one was hurt, but damage to the building and equipment inside was estimated to be $2.5 million. The processed corn that was inside the building has been sent to local grocery stores throughout Indiana.

Investigators are still working to determine what caused the fire.
