Sex offender housing creates concern

Prison administrators and police are grappling with a difficult dilemma. They need a place to house sex offenders once they are released from prison.

The issue resurfaced when state officials made plans to temporarily house registered sex offenders at a Richmond mobile home park.

The Palladium-Item says that prompted a series of meetings around Indiana to discuss the sensitive issue.

The Indiana Sheriff's Association and the Department of Correction are hosting the meetings.

Wayne County Sheriff Jeff Cappa says the groups are going to work together "to try to find housing solutions."

DOC spokesman Doug Garrison says local law enforcement agencies will be invited to attend the meetings over the next several months in six regions around the state.
