Several units destroyed in west side apartment fire

Several apartments were destroyed or damaged in a fire at a complex on the Indianapolis west side Thursday morning.

It happened at the International Village Apartments in the 2800 block of Embassy Row. That's between I-465 and High School Road.

Fire and smoke was showing when firefighters arrived. Wayne Township and Speedway Fire Departments are at the scene.

The video shows at least eight units destroyed and several others with smoke and water damage.

No injuries have been reported.

The Red Cross is working with management to find apartments for those affected.

As of 12:40 pm, the fire was out and most of the units that responded to the fire were back in service.

Same complex burned in 2008

This is the same apartment complex that was the scene of a massive fire five years ago.

Thirty-six apartments went up in flames in ten minutes during the summer of 2008. Wind gusts of up to 20 miles per hour pushed the fire through the building.

All of the residents got out of the building that day without any injury, but three firefighters were injured in a flashover. That's when a combustible material ignites in an enclosed area.

Dozens of residents had to look for new accommodation after the 2008 fire. Investigators were unable to determine a cause.
