Seven people, including three young children, died in a fiery crash in Jasper County on I-65 northbound late Thursday night.

Indiana State Police say a Jeep Cherokee was stopped for work zone traffic when it was rear-ended by a Volvo semi-tractor pulling a box trailer. The impact pushed the Jeep into a stopped Freightliner in front of the Jeep and sparked a fire. The fire engulfed the Jeep and burned the cab and part of the trailer on the Volvo.

Firefighters found two people dead inside the Jeep after putting out the flames, but later found five more bodies while they took the Jeep apart at another location. There were a total of three adults and four children found inside the vehicle.

The Volvo driver was injured and taken to a local hospital. The other semi driver was not injured.

Police don't believe alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash.

When officers have completed the investigation information will be forwarded to the Jasper County Prosecutor's Office for review.
