Serious accident on State Road 44 in Shelby County
The Shelby County Sheriff Department are investigating a head-on collision between two vehicles Sunday morning on State Road 44 at Old Rushville Road.
Deputies were dispatched to the scene just before 7 a.m. after they received a 911 call reporting a crash.
Emergency personnel arrived on the scene, and found both vehicles had sustained major front end damage and had come to rest in the roadway.
Upon investigation, one of the vehicles, a 1997 Buick passenger car, was found to be traveling eastbound when it was driven across the center line and into the westbound lane. The other vehicle, a 2010 black Dodge Caravan, was traveling westbound on 44, and was unable to avoid striking the 1997 Buick passenger car.
The driver of the 2010 Dodge, Victory McCollough 67 of Shelbyville, was transported via Lifeline to Methodist and has been listed in stable condition.
The passenger of the 2010 Dodge, Daniel McCollough 70 of Shelbyville, was transported by medic to Methodist Hospital and is listed in stable condition.
Both McColloughs appeared to have been wearing seatbelts and all airbags deployed.
The driver of the 1997 Buick, James Griggs 44 of Indianapolis, was transported via Lifeline to Methodist and has been listed in stable condition. Griggs did not appear to have been wearing a seatbelt and no airbags deployed. Alcohol may be a contributing factor and toxicology results are pending.
