"Senior prank" blamed for high school bomb threat
RUSHVILLE - A senior prank is being blamed for a bomb squad response at Rushville High School Tuesday morning.
Police say a custodian at the high school noticed a suspicious person leaving the school around 6:50 a.m. Tuesday. The custodian notified his supervisor, who told the principal about the person. A review of school surveillance video showed the person enter the school with a package, but leave without it.
State and local police evacuated the school and located the package, which was determined to be safe. The Indiana State Police bomb squad also responded to the scene.
The person identified in the video, 18-year-old Tyell Morton, a senior at the school, was taken into custody. He was arrested on a charge of criminal mischief.
Classes were allowed to start at 9:15 Tuesday morning, which was the last day of school.
