Semi driver struck, killed alongside I-69 in Grant County
A Michigan man was struck and killed while he worked on his semi on Interstate 69 Friday.
Police say 57-year-old Taquel Dayeh was working on the truck on the shoulder of the interstate in Grant County Friday afternoon. As he walked from the front of the cab, where he was working under the hood, to the driver's side, he was struck by a northbound Jeep Cherokee, driven by 51-year-old Rodney Hunley of Van Buren.
Dayeh was pronounced dead at the scene.
Hunley, who police say failed to stop at the scene of the crash, allegedly drove to his home. A little more than an hour later, he had a friend drive him to the Van Buren Police Department, where he met with Indiana State Police investigators to discuss the incident.
Police do not believe alcohol or narcotics were a factor in the crash. They are investigating if a medical episode by Hunley could have played a role.
