RNC starts negative ads in 40 media markets
The Republican National Committee is starting to run ads in 40 media markets, mostly targeting incumbent senators who supported President Barack Obama's health care program. Billionaire former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, meanwhile, is giving $2.5 million to help Democrats defend their majority in the Senate.
The early action announced Tuesday suggests heavy spending will be the norm in the 2014 elections, and Republicans see the president's signature domestic achievement as their way to win.
RNC chairman Reince Priebus says, quote, "Obamacare is going to be the issue in 2014."
At the same time, Bloomberg's donation to the Senate Majority PAC could help defend those Democrats. The political independent left office last week and seems eager to have his hand in races nationwide.
