Ritz kicks off summer reading program

State Superintendent Glenda Ritz kicked off the Hoosier Family of Readers summer program Monday.

She read to students raise excitement and awareness for the program. As part of it, students have access to some 5,000 books online. There are also volunteers and groups across the state helping out as well.

The program encourages encourage all Hoosier families to read anything that interests them including graphic novels, non-fiction books, magazines and newspapers – whether online or in print. Organizers suggest families:
  • Read with someone
  • Read to someone
  • Share with someone what he/she has read
  • Listen to someone read
  • Help others read
  • Read independently
