State police troopers responded to a report of a car fire at CR 700 N and CR 1075 E in Jackson County around 3 a.m. Friday morning. After firefighters extinguished the flames, they discovered the body of 23-year-old Tabitha Brock of Seymour inside.

There was no evidence that the car had been involved in a crash.

After a day-long investigation, police arrested 29-year-old Gerald Eugene Combs Jr., also of Seymour, on charges of murder, arson and neglect of a dependent. He is being held without bond in the Jackson County Jail.
