Metro Police have arrested two people in connection with a police action shooting at the Circle K gas station at 21st and Shadeland Ave. early Tuesday.

Detectives arrested 23-year-old Manuel Staples and 23-year-old Monique Buckley, both of Indianapolis. They each face a preliminary charge of robbery. Both suspects are awaiting a final charging decision by the Marion County Prosecutor's Office at the Arrestee Processing Center.

Officers were conducting an investigation in the area at approximately 3:00 a.m. when they noticed a suspicious vehicle circling a business lot near Circle K. When that vehicle stopped abruptly, an unidentified man got out headed toward the business. The officers got out of their squad cars and surrounded the business.

According to police, a man was carrying a long semi-automatic rifle, and police saw him try to push employees inside the business.  At that point, the officers told the man to drop the rifle.  They say he refused, and tried to chamber a round and point the gun at one of the officers.

The officer shot the man, who is expected to survive, according to police at the scene.  No officers or civilians were hurt.

IMPD has begun their standard investigation, and the Marion County Prosecutor will review the findings, as with any officer-involved shooting.
