Central Indiana police are seeking the public's help finding a sport-utility vehicle witnesses say was involved in a hit-and-run crash that killed a 78-year-old woman.

Boone County Sheriff Ken Campbell said in a statement Friday he hopes the public can provide tips on the dark-colored SUV involved the crash that killed Anita Wernsing. He says solving Wernsing's "terrible" hit-and-run death is a top priority for his department.

The Indianapolis Star reports police believe Wernsing had left Mount Tabor Primitive Church just before she was hit Sunday by a car on Indiana 267 a few miles west of Zionsville. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

After running off the road, the northbound vehicle that hit Wernsing continued on Indiana 267 without stopping.
