Indianapolis - The search is on for the person who shot and killed two people on the west side of Indianapolis, and Metro Police have identified the victims.

It happened late Wednesday night on Addison near West Washington Street.

Police say 911 calls came in with the callers saying they heard gunshots and they could hear people in an alley next to a church.

Police arrived and found two people in that alley with gunshot wounds. Victor Pennell, 50, died at the scene. William Smith, 45, was sent to Wishard hospital, where he died minutes later. Both men were from Camby.

No weapons were found at the scene.

Investigators say, at this point, they don't have a motive on the double shooting.

"That is still unknown, its too early in the investigation. What we know is two people were shot in an alley and the suspect is at large at this time," said Sgt. Paul Thompson.

Officers are looking for help from the public.

"Right now we're waiting for anyone with information on the crime to come forward. We're interviewing potential witnesses who saw a vehicle flee the area following the shooting. We're still waiting for those details," Sgt Thompson said.

If you have any information on this shooting, call Crime Stoppers at 262-TIPS.
