Police are asking the public's help in locating a vehicle that was involved in a fatal hit-and-run crash earlier this week.

Investigators say 18-year-old Nicholas King was driving his scooter east on Westheaven Drive shortly after midnight Tuesday when he was struck by a vehicle as he crossed High School Road. The vehicle struck the scooter, ejecting King and a juvenile passenger who was riding on the back seat of the scooter.

Witnesses told police the vehicle, believed to be a gray or silver 1996 Ford Taurus or Mercury Sable, possibly a station wagon, was traveling at a high rate of speed when it struck the scooter.

King was found unresponsive and was taken to Eskenazi Health in critical condition. He later died of his injuries.

Police are asking anyone who may have been in the area or knows the whereabouts of the vehicle, which may have damage to the front end, to call the IMPD Hit-and-Run Office at 317-327-6549.
